World-Class Sculptor Brings Eight Works Westward – From NYC Via Indianapolis to Officially Debut in Beverly Hills November 15th
Beverly Hills, CA -- Eight bronze sculptures, majestic in size and humorous in spirit, were recently installed on the green lawns fronting Beverly Hills City Hall. The works, by famed international artist Tom Otterness, appeared suddenly during the last week of October and will be officially “unveiled” at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 15, 2005. The eight sculptures, entitled Tom Otterness in Beverly Hills, made the trek from a five-mile stretch of New York City’s Broadway (Tom Otterness on Broadway), to Indianapolis (Tom Otterness in Indianapolis ) and have landed on the west lawn of Beverly Hill's City Hall at 450 North Crescent Drive and Santa Monica Boulevard. Tom Otterness in Beverly Hills, will run through April 30, 2006.
Sculptures in Beverly Hills are See No Evil, Big Big Penny, Free Money, Mad Mom, King, Queen, Tree of Knowledge and Covered Wagon, Otterness’ ode to pioneer life. “It’s been fun to watch all these East Coast sculptures migrate west. Covered Wagon finally made it to the Pacific,” said the New York City-based Otterness.
Otterness, born in Wichita, Kansas, and based in New York City, is known for his metaphorical and emotional, yet also sophisticated, bronze cartoon-like figures. Represented by the prestigious Marlborough Gallery, Otterness is in the middle of his busiest year yet. This Thanksgiving, Otterness will be the first fine artist – ever – to have a balloon, Macy’s Parade Humpty Dumpty Balloon, at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The popular Tom Otterness in Indianapolis, an exhibition of 25 sculptures displayed throughout the city of Indianapolis concluded in October of 2005 and represented the largest public art exhibition to ever be hosted in the Indiana capital. This enormously popular exhibition followed Tom Otterness on Broadway, which illuminated five miles of New York City from September 2004 through March 2005 and was the first large display of temporary public art on the Broadway Malls, the landscaped medians on Broadway from 60th to 168th Streets.
